Lahti 2017 - Building on 93 years of Experience
It's now less than one year until the Lahti2017 FIS Nordic World Ski Championships. It will be a record 7th time hosting the Championships in Lahti and the most recent Lahti Ski Games gave everyone a preview of what's to come. In the first joint Inside the Fence between FIS Cross-Country and FIS Nordic Combined we take a look inside the history and the future of Lahti. Cross-country skiing originated in Fennoscandian countries in prehistoric times. It was still widely practiced in the 19th century as a way of moving from place to place in winter. As a sport, cross-country skiing is one of the most difficult endurance sports, as its motions use every major muscle group. Modern cross-country ski competition is experiencing a revolution that is resulting in greater compatibility with audiences which began with the addition of the Sprint event to the World Cup and Olympic competitions in 2002.
